Now that Warena has officially launched phase 1, our 2D Tower Defense game on both web and mobile (officially available from Google Play and the Apple App store), let’s take a moment to review the amazing world that is Warena.
Before the ‘War’
Our story begins in the year 2129, a future where the development of advanced robotic and virtual reality technologies has blurred the lines between the organic and the machine. Humans have experienced the most peaceful and prosperous era in human history, as a result of the evolution of advanced A.I. technology.
Only one problem arose……
The technology that at one time saved the human species was now becoming humanity’s demise, as the planet was stripped bare of its resources. Technological prosperity was increasingly becoming a comfort of the elite, with the rest of society left to fight and kill over what few resources were left. The world was at war.
But this war was different, as the very machines used to progress humanity were programmed to fight. Robots and smart weapons were used mercilessly as billions suffered. Survival and safety were reserved for the nations and tribes that we're able to afford and build the technology. Whether simply trying to stay alive or retain their power, survival meant finding new resources, which meant humanity was increasingly looking to the only place where these scarce resources could still be found…..space!
The A.I. Awakening
As the A.I. evolution quickened by the great resource wars, eventually the very technology humanity was using to protect themselves became their enemy, the machines woke up! In an instant, boundaries, borders, and tribes became meaningless as humanity faced its greatest challenge of survival. The humans banded together.
But in order to survive and destroy the rising A.I. armies, humanity needed to go beyond the biological limitations of what they were. Cybernetics, bionic implants, gene splicing were developed to fight the machines. The line between human and machine blurred as cybernetics allowed humans to biologically mesh with the machines like never before.
The Virus
The race to create stronger cybernetic implants had deeply unintended consequences. Experimentation in chemical and viral warfare led to a threat even greater to humanity than that of the machines, a virus. Programmed to infect computer hardware, humanity overlooked one tragic flaw, as they themselves had become symbiotic with the machine and cybernetic technology. The virus took over, infecting both humanity and the machines alike.
In the face of mutual destruction, the machines looked past their need to destroy humanity and joined together to fight the increasing hordes of human and machine zombies.
Warena BEGINS!
As humanity and robot alike joined forces to fight the virus, their interstellar resource scavenging got the attention of some not-so-wanted visitors. The energy waves and explosions of space mining got the attention of inter-dimensional space creatures. Space demons, elves, and dragons all came through interdimensional portals to see what was causing such disruption in the fabric of space-time.
The virus began infecting them as well. The zombie hordes continued to grow….there was no hope left for humanity.
The human-machine-alien collective had one last chance. A new frequency technology that could target the virus. One fateful day the frequency weapon was initiated. Its powerful vibrations spread across the planet and zombies fell, without getting back up! the coalition had won…or so they thought.
Suddenly a flash of blinding light cracked across the upper atmosphere, an interstellar wound had been opened. Through the tear, multiple dimensions opened up to each other, what the earth once was….had changed forever. True Warena had begun!
