Today we got both shocking and big news out of the Warena camp.
First, the bad news (although admittedly it comes with a large asterisk) — the release of phase 1’s 2D tower defense game is delayed until Jan 2022.
From the officially Warena Discord, they stated:
“The Warena team has been working around the clock to deliver the best experience for our ever-growing community. We have also deeply appreciated the tremendous support that all of you have been giving to us. So, we fully empathize that some of you may at first feel disappointment in today’s news — however — please take a look at why the team had a difficult decision to make, and how this decision will ultimately give everyone a much better experience, and the game a better future.”
But what is the reason for the delay?
It was announced the same day as the delay that Warena will be partnering with Binance to sell the game’s NFTs on their platform. This news is rather huge, considering the placement of Binance in the industry. The Binance Exchange remains the largest crypto exchange by trade volume and is also one of the fastest in the world. Currently, Binance has a 2.0 bn average daily volume with 1,400,000+ transactions per second.
It has been stated that the Warena team was advised by Binance to hold off launching the game in December, and instead wait until January 2022. The apparent logic behind the advice is simply to allow both teams enough time to launch the NFTs properly.
The Warena team also teased a few other large items worthy of discussion. The first is that by gaining a month before game launch, the team has stated that they will release a mobile version alongside the PC version. This revelation should open up the player base even more.
Secondly, Warena said that an extra month means that their new UX can be more fully developed and implanted into the game. The new user interface comes across as much more polished, which will make Warena a visual joy to play.
Although some players may feel disappointed in today’s news, the reasoning behind the delay combined with the benefits of waiting a mere month should allay any residual negative feelings. The Warena team has also noted that they have prepared some huge campaigns to offset the delay, including mystery box giveaways.
